Inari is a popular deity in Japan, with temples located throughout the country. The main shrine is Fushimi Inari Shrine in Fushimi, a division of the city of Kyoto, Japan, where the road leading to the shrine is marked with hundreds of red torii, signaling the way up and down the mountain.
The Inari stool has its delicate and fluid design inspired by the Japanese portals that mark the entrances to temples, the toriis. Its seat and back seem to float around the structure in metallic tubes.
